I just noticed that there's a lot less folk around recently. I hope they didn't die and their bodies are hidden somewhere that I'll find later. Because seriously....

That would suck.

It doesn't just suck, it's downright creepy.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: sickcrymetalhilde on February 6th, 2009 03:37 am (UTC)
Well, I guess it would really depend on the state I found 'em in. If they'd already started stinkin', I prolly would puke.

If they weren't recognizable as people, just big gory messes, I'd prolly poke 'em with a stick.

But if they still looked alive and I checked 'em for a pulse, only to find they were dead...that would give me the creeps. I mean, I was used to it in the war, you kinda expect that, but this would be different - no one bothered to pick up the body.
Duo Maxwell (OU): Erkdeaths_pilot on February 6th, 2009 07:43 pm (UTC)
*scrunches his nose* C'mon, Hil... this is all stuff we dealt with 'cuz of the salvage thing... doesn't mean I wanna relive it, 'kay?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]metalhilde on February 7th, 2009 02:25 am (UTC)
I dunno. I can't help what I focus on.
Duo Maxwell (OU): Wavedeaths_pilot on February 7th, 2009 04:50 am (UTC)
It's okay. It's what we work with all the time.
Edward Elric (OU): What?oneis_all_isone on February 5th, 2009 04:07 pm (UTC)
...

That's a little gross.

Has this sort of thing actually happened to you?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: surprisemetalhilde on February 6th, 2009 03:41 am (UTC)
....yes. Well, finding dead bodies. But not finding dead bodies that no one was on burial detail for. That...makes me sad, and creeped out.

It's like no one cared enough to find them for burial, so maybe they're still there. Somehow.

Hello, by the by.
Edward Elric (OU): Frownoneis_all_isone on February 6th, 2009 07:32 pm (UTC)
Oh. Uh, hello. I'm Ed Elric.

Yeah, that is sad. Let's hope that's not the case.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: bigsmilehappymetalhilde on February 7th, 2009 02:41 am (UTC)
Hullo Ed. How are you this fine, morbidly interesting day?
Edward Elric (OU): Cheerfuloneis_all_isone on February 7th, 2009 06:54 pm (UTC)
Well, I'm on this side of the daisies, so I guess I'm doing alright.

How 'bout you?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: bigsmilehappymetalhilde on February 9th, 2009 05:12 am (UTC)
I'm wondering what to do with myself. I'm rather bored, as you can tell - most occupied minds don't think about stuff like this very often, but it's been taking up more and more of my thoughts lately...

I need to get out more, I guess.
Edward Elric (OU): Move Forwardoneis_all_isone on February 9th, 2009 07:01 pm (UTC)
Thoughts like that don't do anyone any good. You should get out more.

Back in my world, if I wasn't working, I was in the library or sparring with my brother.

Here, well, I guess there is a library, except I haven't been there yet to know if it's any good. But there is a lot of work to do. Most of the buildings around here need repairs, if you're into that sort of thing.

What would you do if you weren't stuck here?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: smiletalkmetalhilde on February 11th, 2009 03:46 am (UTC)
...prolly the same I'm doing now. Making metal junk, working on metal junk, maybe helping in world-saving efforts, but otherwise just existing.

I just kinda go with the flow.
Edward Elric (OU): Cheerfuloneis_all_isone on February 11th, 2009 04:00 am (UTC)
*grins*

Cool. So you're a world-saving mechanic then?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: huh?metalhilde on February 11th, 2009 04:25 am (UTC)
Well, I HELPED. I didn't actually do the true world-saving, but I did contribute an important part to it.
Edward Elric (OU): Thoughtfuloneis_all_isone on February 11th, 2009 04:44 am (UTC)
Helping counts just as much. I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for my mechanic.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: smiletalkmetalhilde on February 12th, 2009 04:00 am (UTC)
Your mechanic? You have giant robots where you come from?
Edward Elric (OU): Claponeis_all_isone on February 12th, 2009 04:12 am (UTC)
Huh? No. No giant robots. She builds automail.

Wait. Do you build giant robots?
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: surprisemetalhilde on February 13th, 2009 01:24 am (UTC)
Yes, giant robots. You can sit inside 'em and blow shit up. What's automail?
Edward Elric (OU): Claponeis_all_isone on February 13th, 2009 02:59 am (UTC)
No kidding? I'm trying to picture it. Sounds kinda like something out of a movie.

Automail is a mechanical prosthetic - it's connected to a person's nerves and can move like a real limb.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: spunkymetalhilde on February 13th, 2009 05:49 am (UTC)
That sounds...amazingly like something I saw in my world, once. It wasn't something available to just anyone, though, and doesn't seem like it's as advanced as what you're describing.

Fascinating.
Edward Elric (OU): Attitudeoneis_all_isone on February 13th, 2009 06:39 pm (UTC)
Well, Winry's pretty amazing. Her family's been in automail for a long time, and she's come up with some incredible stuff. I can barely guess at how it all works.
Not everyone who could use automail has it. It does get expensive and not everyone wants the commitment.

Robots are pretty fascinating. We have automobiles and trains, but nothing like that.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]metalhilde on February 14th, 2009 04:47 am (UTC)
Expensive, eh..It must be even more advanced that I first thought, if it costs a lot. Most people I know with metal limbs got 'em black market or invented things themselves, but they just look like stick-limbs.
Edward Elric (OU): Thoughtfuloneis_all_isone on February 16th, 2009 08:13 pm (UTC)
*shrugs* Hard to say how it would compare.

Cost mostly depends on what you want the automail to do in the first place and how often you need it repaired... Oh, then there's the initial surgery.

I know I'm fortunate when I think of the other options out there.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: huh?metalhilde on February 17th, 2009 02:44 am (UTC)
I take that to mean you have automail yourself?
Edward Elric (OU): Grinoneis_all_isone on February 17th, 2009 02:50 am (UTC)
Huh? Oh, uh, yeah. I do.
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: surprisemetalhilde on February 17th, 2009 03:43 am (UTC)
...wait, if your mechanic is back in your world, who's fixing your limb now?
Edward Elric (OU): Frownoneis_all_isone on February 17th, 2009 03:45 pm (UTC)
...Well, nobody. I haven't broken yet.

EW. What a horrible thing to say!
Duo Maxwell (OU): Distantdeaths_pilot on February 6th, 2009 07:44 pm (UTC)
That's the mindset when you're workin' in space salvage. When life support goes dead... *shrugs, lets that hang*
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]metalhilde on February 7th, 2009 02:41 am (UTC)
Actually I was thinking of when I was in OZ, but salvage is bad too.
Duo Maxwell (OU): Distantdeaths_pilot on February 7th, 2009 04:50 am (UTC)
Yeah...
Faye Valentine (OU): eeccchhhh/bored/disgusted with the worldlady_bounty on February 8th, 2009 03:26 pm (UTC)
...Okay, I've come across my share of unfortunate victims of atmospheric vacuum, and assorted other dead bodies.

But still. Guh. Morbid.
Duo Maxwell (OU): Distantdeaths_pilot on February 9th, 2009 02:46 am (UTC)
Yeah... I know.
Quatre Winner (AU): Thinkingquatre_winner_1 on February 10th, 2009 05:36 am (UTC)
*sighs* That....happens. A lot. We would rather they get sent home. *doesn't want to say that her speculation could be likely*
Hilde Schbeiker [OU]: irritatedmetalhilde on February 11th, 2009 03:49 am (UTC)
...rather? You mean to say that I might actually find rotting bodies? Ugh.
Quatre Winner (AU): shockquatre_winner_1 on February 12th, 2009 04:11 am (UTC)
No...I didn't mean that, exactly...*shudders*

I...nevermind.
